Guy & Amy Kuenzel

Together

We met not long after Guy was discharged from the Navy and shortly before my graduation from high school. We dated all summer before I went to college. Our relationship was back and forth for years, but throughout the time we maintained a friendship. Four years after we met, we planned to marry, but it was not God's time. We were not ready. There were periods when I wouldn't even speak to Guy. Other times, he stood strong in our friendship and attempted to befriend my suitors. What changed? We did! Guy attended Promise Keepers the summer of 1997 and returned a changed man. The Holy Spirit completed a work in him that transformed him. My abusive relationship awakened me from a spiritual slumber in the fall of 1997. Though I had caused Guy deep pain, he was my true friend and loved me as Christ loves His church. In December 1997, we committed ourselves to each other and on April 4, 1998, we were married.

Three weeks after we began our life together tragedy struck again. Guy was in a nearly fatal car accident while working. He blacked out behind the wheel, causing him to crash into a chemical tanker. His face was beyond recognition from the gashes produced by the impact of the windshield, and the momentum that forced him into the steering column lacerated his liver. His broken ankle kept him out of work for almost 3 months. Herein lies yet another miracle: Guy lived through the accident! Though surgery was required to repair damage to his eyelids and facial lacerations, there is minimal scarring. Miracles happen! The Lord is good! God provides! Not a bill went unpaid, and we were never without anything. Our church family supported us through prayer and supplied meals for us the week directly following the accident. We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God has a purpose for us to accomplish. Do you still ask how? We know this if for no other reason than the fact that both of us have been saved from death a number of times, first and foremost from eternal death.
