In Canyon City, Texas, I was born in a Christian home in 1973. A year later, we moved to my parents' home in Columbus, Ohio. After several moves, we landed in Charleston, South Carolina, just before my first year of high school. Though many would consider my home "picture-perfect", there were trials to face growing up. Through no fault of my parents, I endured sexual abuse from ages 4 to 9, which skewed my ideas about God. Once graduated from a Christian school in 1992, I left Charleston to attend a Christian college. Childhood events disillusioned me about Christianity, so I began attending a secular college in Charleston. I became the proverbial "wild child". This led to more misfortune, from suffering gang rape, to nearly dying at the hands of an abusive boyfriend. There was nothing left for me to do but turn back to the God I met as a child.
